History

I discovered Compas via the Dutch radio station VPRO back in 1988. From that moment I got hooked on Compas Music. I taped a few brilliant 70's tracks from
Les Shleu Shleu, Tabou Combo and Les Gypsies on K7.
I had to get an overview
on what was available on the market. The French import-dealer Sonodisc seemed
to have interesting stuff, but nearly none owned or sold compas records over
here - hard times! Years later I met Helmut Otto, a German guy who had compiled a list of historic
compas records. He used information from different American record selling catalogues and his own vinyl collection. I added
Sonodisc information and anything else I found while researching, including
hints from Gage Averill. Meanwhile I found more and more great old Haitian compas records and CD reissues to listen to. At the present time, I prefer the live and long playing bon konpa sound from the past few years.
Kite konpa mache...
